The catalytic carbon backwashing filtration system is widely recognized for addressing multiple water quality concerns. It effectively reduces chloramines, hydrogen sulfide, chlorine, sediment, and unpleasant tastes and odors, resulting in cleaner, clearer water throughout the home.

The system incorporates high-activity granular activated carbon derived from steam-activated coconut shell charcoal. Its catalytic properties enable efficient reduction of chloramines and hydrogen sulfide in potable water. The extensive micropore structure supports the removal of low molecular weight organic compounds, including chloroform and other trihalomethanes (THMs).

KDF 85 Media Guard

High-purity copper-zinc redox media remove up to 99% of free chlorine by converting dissolved chlorine into water-soluble chloride ions through an electrochemical reaction.

KDF media can be used with or instead of activated carbon filters, removing up to 95% of chlorine in municipal water. As a pre-treatment, it extends the life of granular activated carbon and helps control bacterial growth.

KDF process media are suitable for pretreatment, primary water treatment, and wastewater systems. They are commonly used alongside or in place of carbon filters, including GAC, carbon block, and inline filters, while protecting against microbial fouling.

They also serve as an alternative to silver-based systems. Unlike silver, which is classified as toxic and regulated as a pesticide, KDF media are non-toxic and more cost-efficient.

The redox process occurs through the interaction of copper and zinc, creating an electrochemical reaction that transforms harmful contaminants into less harmful forms. Chlorine is converted into harmless chloride ions, while heavy metals such as lead and mercury bind to the media surface, effectively removing them from the water.
