KDF 55 Filter Media – 1 LB

High-purity copper-zinc redox media consistently removes up to 99% of free chlorine by electrochemically reducing dissolved chlorine gas into water-soluble chloride ions.

KDF process media are used to complement or replace activated carbon filters, removing up to 95% of chlorine in municipal water applications. Utilizing KDF media as a pretreatment for granular activated carbon also extends the carbon’s service life and inhibits bacterial growth within the filter bed.

KDF Process Media are used in a wide range of applications, including pretreatment, primary water treatment, and wastewater treatment processes. They are typically used either as a replacement for or in combination with granular activated carbon filters, including carbon block and inline filters. KDF filter media help extend the service life of granular activated carbon (GAC) while also protecting the carbon bed from fouling caused by bacterial growth.

We can explain the redox (oxidation-reduction) process as follows: KDF Fluid Treatment’s unique combination of copper and zinc triggers an electrochemical reaction. During this process, electrons are transferred between molecules, transforming the structure of contaminants. Some harmful substances are converted into harmless components. Free chlorine, for instance, is changed into benign, water-soluble chloride, which passes safely through the water supply. Similarly, heavy metals—including copper, lead, and mercury—react by plating onto the medium’s surface, effectively removing them from the water.
